Pair the capture director and headset

Pairing binds one capture director to one demonstrator for the life of the session. The invitation identifies the session; the connection profile determines how the two browsers find each other.

Start on the capture director

1. Open Launch > Capture director.
2. Choose Local only or Direct. Changing the connection method creates an invitation automatically.
3. If the panel instead shows No active invite, select Create invite.
4. Share the displayed link or QR code with the demonstrator. Keep the invitation panel open until the headset has joined.

The invitation is session-specific. If it expires before pickup, select New invite. An expired invitation does not disconnect a demonstrator who is already paired. Use Reset pairing only when that action is shown and the paired demonstrator must be replaced. If the wrong headset joins before the reset action is available, stop the run and use Restart to create a fresh session.

Join from Quest

1. Open the invitation link in Quest Browser or scan its QR code.
2. Select Enable camera, grant the requested permission and choose the outward-facing camera.
3. Wait for the pairing, camera and recorder checks to finish.
4. Select Join XR, allow hand tracking and keep both hands in front of the headset until the overlays appear.

Do not open several copies of the same invitation. A session accepts one capture-tab identity, so the original joined tab should remain open for the run.

Choose a connection profile

• Local only exchanges the connection on the shared network and needs no CERES account. Capture traffic stays between the two devices.
• Direct uses the CERES service to introduce the browsers across networks, then sends capture traffic peer-to-peer.
• Relayed is not a selectable profile. Eligible Direct sessions can request the experimental metered TURN fallback automatically when peer routing fails.

Confirm the link

The capture director should show LINKED and the demonstrator should show the assigned task rather than a waiting screen. Confirm camera, XR, link and recorder readiness before either person starts the run.

If the link drops during recording, stop the important motion and keep both tabs open. CERES can recover a temporary connection without turning a missing observation into a copied frame. Continue only when both surfaces show the same task and readiness state.
